At the young age of six, Jessica started training competitively in Tap, Ballet, Jazz, and acro. As she continued her training she was introduced to hiphop, contemporary, and modern. With hard work and determination, Jessica is now pursuing her childhood dream to share her love of dance as a studio director, dance educator and adjudicator.
As a Performer Jessica has competed in many worldwide competitions and has competed several times with Team Canada at the International Dance Organization in Germany ranking fourth at worlds, and since, has been showcased through City TVs Breakfast television, CP24, local community channel for Rogers’s television, Canada’s Got Talent, New York City’s Capezio A.C.E Awards, Choreographer’s Ball, Fever After Dark and Blake McGrath’s Toronto Tour.
Jessica is a York University graduate, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, Specializing in Dance Performance and Choreography. During her four years at York University, Jessica has performed in York University’s MFA Show, with the piece “Kindred”, choreographed by Alumni, Suma Nair. Jessica was asked to perform in “Fall Immersion”, A show produced by York Alumni Nikolaos Markakis and Suma Nair, where she had the opportunity to explore the intricate and radiant movement of Bharatanatyam, a classical indian dance form.
Jessica is the founder and Artistic Director of D’Air Dance Collective. and pre-professional dance studio and professional performance company. With the Company, Jessica has successfully produced three sold out productions, “Carn’Evil’”, “XPerience” and “Opia”. Her most recent works “Entity”, “Ice Moon”, “Wicca” and “(IN)Between” have been released in Fever After Dark Showcase produced by Jerome Bobb. Her piece, “Hearts Perplexity” Performed by City Dance Corps performance company, The Collective, has been showcased at Dance Ontario weekend through City Dance Corps. Most Recently, D’Air Dance Collective has been highlighted in York Region Arts Council’s Promotional video for the “Artreprenur” Program,
and York Region Tourism video. Jessica and D'Air Dance Collective were also showcased at the Moda Gala Fashion Show, Vaughan City hall Culture Day, Fureza Latina Community Performances, CHANEL Cosmetics with the Hudson Bay Company and the Carrasauga Mississauga Festival .
Jessica is a certified instructor under Acrobatic Arts Module 1 and 2, Rhythm Works Intergrated Dance (RWID) and Youth Protection Advocates In Dance (Y.P.A.D), Alixa Flexibility Module 1-3 and First aid and CPR (St. John Ambulance)
Norma is a Registered Teacher and Mentor with the Royal Academy of Dance.
She teaches all levels of ballet from Grade 1 to Solo Seal. Her students have received excellent results. Two of her students have been awarded the solo seal.
Successful competitive students of Mrs. Sutherlands’ have won scholarships, overall awards and titles throughout Canada and the United States. Some are performing professionally in the theatre, on cruise ships and professional ballet companies in Canada and Europe. Other students have forged their own careers as Ballet Teachers.
Mrs. Sutherland strives to bring technique, grace, poise, self esteem and discipline to all of her students.
She takes pride in her career as a Ballet Teacher.
Julia started dancing at an early age and has been professionally trained in a variety of styles including ballet, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, and hip hop. She also danced at a competitive level for 8 years. She has successfully completed RAD ballet examinations at both the graded and vocational levels.
Julia Is a member of D'Air Dance Collective's Performance Company, where she had the opportunity to perform in many productions and showcases, such as Fever After Dark, City Dance Corps Anniversary show and Carrasauga Mississauga festival and Young Creators.
Julia continues her dance education by taking classes and performing within the Toronto dance community. Most recently Julia has become apart of Humber College's Dance team and continues her training.
She is excited to be a part of the team at D'air Dance Collective and share her passion for dance with a new generation of young dancers.
